Opening Keynote Session
Prepare for Your Best Year of Christ-Centered Homeschooling Ever
You’ll probably agree homeschooling is “the adventure of a lifetime.” But are you ready to have this year be the best ever? In this opening session, Davis and Rachael Carman share from their years of homeschooling experience on the key to successful homeschooling: keep your eyes on God. As they share from their journey of faith, Davis and Rachael will answer practical questions like, “How can I survive as a mom of young children?” “How do I help my children adjust from the public schools to homeschool?” “And, How do I get to know my kids?” It’s time to break paradigms, get out of your comfort zone, and be equipped for the amazing task of educating your children!
Davis and Rachael were married in 1986, and God has blessed them with seven children and one grandchild; so far, three children have graduated from their home school. They live in Waxhaw, North Carolina, where they enjoy the homeschooling adventure of a lifetime, complete with roller-coaster twists and turns and the occasional lazy river ride. Davis is an international speaker and advocate for home education; he has a degree in mechanical engineering from Vanderbilt University and a master’s degree from Purdue University. Davis is also the author of three illustrated children’s books designed to instill a biblical worldview: Good Morning, God, A Light for My Path, and In the Beginning. Rachael is a speaker and the author of How Many Times Do I Have to Tell You? and How to Have a HEART for Your Kids, where she challenges mothers to surrender their will and draw closer to their heavenly Father. Together, Davis and Rachael own Apologia Educational Ministries, the #1 publisher of Creation-based science and Bible curriculum. In his role as president of the company, Davis’ mission is to help homeschooling families learn, live, and defend the Christian faith.
Math
Teaching Math from a Christian Worldview
We see God’s hand in science and history, but what about in math? While most of us have come to look upon math as “neutral,” it’s not! Worldviews do matter in math — and there’s much more to looking at math from a biblical worldview than adding a scripture or Bible word problem to the lesson. In this interview with Katherine Loop, you’ll discover biblical principles that make math come alive and give math meaning, helping children really understand what they’re learning. Find out how “neutral” presentations are really not neutral. Leave excited to begin looking at and teaching math from a new perspective!
After recognizing the tremendous difference it made in her life to have a biblical worldview regarding math, Katherine Loop began to share that vision with others. She has now been researching, writing, and speaking on math for more than a decade. Her writings include several books on teaching math from a biblical worldview along with a math curriculum published by Master Books. Several of her books are used by homeschool families, as well as by Christian colleges and Christian schools to help train teachers. A homeschool graduate herself, Katherine loves encouraging homeschool parents and helping them in this area that is a challenge for many. She has has been a speaker at various homeschool conferences across the nation. Her heart is to point people to “seek the Lord and His strength” (Psalm 104:4) in everything.
Science
The Importance of Teaching a Biblical Worldview as It Relates to Science
Does real science contradict biblical facts? Is young earth creationism a valid understanding of origins? Is teaching science from a neutral perspective even possible? In answering these questions and more, Ken Ham explains how the Bible creates the only foundation for truly understanding science. This session will help you prepare your children to defend their faith against a culture of skepticism.
Ken Ham, a native Australian who now lives near Cincinnati, is the president and CEO of Answers in Genesis, the highly acclaimed Creation Museum, and America’s latest major tourist attraction, the Ark Encounter (with a life-size Noah’s Ark as the centerpiece, south of Cincinnati). He is one of the most in-demand Christian speakers in North America and appears frequently on TV. Ken is a prominent blogger and the author of numerous books on the accuracy and authority of the Bible, starting with its very first verse. As CEO of a ministry that has over 700 full-time and part-time staff, Ken hosts the daily radio program, ANSWERS with Ken Ham, heard on more than 900 stations in America and is one of the editors and contributing authors for AiG’s Answers magazine, an award-winning biblical worldview publication with over 70,000 worldwide subscribers.
Language Arts
Teaching Literature from a Christian Worldview
We live in an age that has forgotten God — especially in the area of literature. When staggering numbers of children from Christian families are walking away from the faith, it is crucial that we teach literature in a way that equips them to stand strong on a biblical foundation. In this session, Kevin Swanson explains the key sequence of teaching the vast array of literature from the Bible to classics such as Hawthorne or Twain. Equip yourself and your children to analyze literature from a biblical perspective — it will transform your liberal arts.
Homeschooled himself in the 1960s and 70s, Kevin Swanson and his wife, Brenda, are now homeschooling their five children. Kevin has 43 years of experience in the homeschooling movement and serves as the director of Generations, a ministry he founded to strengthen homeschool families around the country. As a father who wants to leave a godly heritage for his own children, Kevin’s passion is to strengthen and encourage the homeschooling movement all over the world and to cast a vision for generations to come. For the last 13 years Kevin has hosted a daily radio program – Generations Radio – the world’s largest homeschooling and Biblical worldview program that reaches families across the US and in over 100 countries. He has also authored several popular books for homeschoolers, including Freedom, Apostate, Upgrade: 10 Secrets to the Best Education for Your Child, the Family Bible Study Guide Series, and others.
History & Social Studies
Teaching History from a Christian Worldview – God Initiates, People Respond, History Happens!
When asked about history, most people respond in two ways, describing it first as the “story of mankind,” and then as “boring.” Is it either, or both? Does the first view create the second view? How does the Lord define “history,” and how can we use it is a technicolor display of all that we know matters most?
Michelle Howard Miller is a veteran home educator, author, columnist, magazine writer, speaker, consultant, and librarian who founded and operates two large “living books” libraries in Michigan and Florida. Her deep insights about education and her knowledge of living books – and their power – is extremely expansive, and she consults with individual home educating families and helps others around the country found libraries. She also has written an award-winning, literature-based, spiritually-focused history curriculum: TruthQuest History. It was born from her own yearning to teach deep biblical truth through history to her four children and from her work with the many who learn through her libraries and consultations. Michelle offers personal book recommendations to families and schools via www.LivingBooksLady.com and also consults for a non-profit foundation in support of a classical school library. Michelle graduated summa cum laude from the University of Alabama, has served in local churches and educational groups, and now has seven cute grandsons!
Finding the Right Tools for You
Homeschooling: Preference or Conviction?
Why do you homeschool? And how does understanding the purpose of life create the foundation for successful homeschooling? Conference speaker and homeschool graduate Israel Wayne explains how the motivation behind homeschooling is key to determining grades and curriculum choice. Discover the key role of a family mission statement and learn how the homeschool lifestyle not only transforms your children’s lives but yours as well.
Israel and his wife Brook are homeschooling their nine children in southwest Michigan. Since 1995, Israel has traveled the nation speaking on family, homeschooling, revival, discipleship, and cultural issues. He is an author and conference speaker who has a passion for defending the Christian faith and promoting a Biblical worldview; his books include Homeschooling from a Biblical Worldview, Full-Time Parenting: A Guide to Family-Based Discipleship, Questions God Asks, and Questions Jesus Asks. He is a frequent guest on national radio and television programs. Israel has been featured in national and international publications including TIME Magazine, The Arizona Republic, WORLD Magazine, and the Wall Street Journal. Israel serves as the Director of Family Renewal, LLC and is the site editor for ChristianWorldview.net (a Christian apologetics site).
Closing Keynote Session
Homeschool Curriculum – Tools for Discipleship
Education is never neutral. From science to liberal arts, everything has bias. So how do we be intentional about the kind of education we’re giving our children? The three R’s are a start in education — but is there more? And even more importantly, if the first view a child has of God comes through his parents, what glimpse are we giving them? Join Kevin Swanson, Bill Roach, and Steve Craig as they discuss the role of discipleship in homeschooling and the incredible influence parents can have on the future of their children.
Bill Roach has been on the board of CHEC for almost 20 years and has served as president for well over half of those years. He and his wife Shalyn have been blessed to be able to disciple all five of their children and homeschooled them all since the beginning. Bill and his family work in various family businesses and enjoy the blessing and challenge of working with each other. Even as the older ones get married, the Roaches have been blessed to continue to minister and work together. The Roaches have served in various positions within CHEC including Conference Coordinators. Their heart’s cry is to continue to see more families draw closer together and closer to their church community as they grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. The Roaches have lived in Castle Rock since 2009.

Stephen Craig is the Executive Director for Christian Home Educators of Colorado (CHEC). Stephen and his wife Tara were both homeschooled for all of their primary and secondary school years. One of Stephen’s primary life goals has been to raise a godly family for the glory of Christ and he has a strong belief in the significance of home discipleship toward accomplishing that end. Stephen & Tara live in Parker, CO with their four children, Carson, Christiana, Angelina, and Jewel.

Short answer = nope! We have pulled together a fantastic lineup of speakers and shopping options, but it doesn’t replace the value of attending your local homeschool conference. We highly recommend checking with your state organization (find a list here) for more information about their conferences. As awesome as this summit is, we still believe that the in-person networking of a local conference is invaluable!
They are the ministries behind HomeschoolSummits.com. Based in Colorado, both organizations exist to help parents raise their children to love and serve God. CHEC is a state organization that fights for homeschool liberty and helps parents get started homeschooling and stay the journey. (Learn more here.) Generations is a national organization that offers a daily radio program, family events, curriculum, and more. (Learn more here.) About our fantastic hosts:
Hi! We’re Todd and Jessie. We have seven kids, preschool through high school, and we’ve homeschooled them from the start. Over the years we’ve lived around the country, but now we’re back in the place where we were both raised – Colorado Springs, Colorado.
We love the flexibility that homeschooling gives us to tailor education to the different learning styles of each child (as evidenced by the wide variety of curriculum we’ve used!). We’re 14 years into the homeschooling journey, but we’re still learning! As your hosts for the Homeschool Curriculum Summit, we’ve discussed with the speakers (wow, some really terrific ones!) about how to find the best curriculum fit for each child.
Most importantly, we will be focused on our overall purpose, which is to raise our kids in the fear and admonition of the Lord. That’s our goal, and we’re grateful to be able to homeschool so we can choose curriculum that reflects that purpose.
This entire project, both the Homeschool Curriculum Summit and HomeschoolSummits.com, is a project of CHEC.org and Generations to bring Christian families the resources and encouragement they need to homeschool with confidence and pass on the faith to their children.
We can’t wait to have you join us!
